Appointment of new members to the Technical Advisory Board (TAB) and reappointment of TAB Chair

The following people have been appointed by the Home Secretary as members of the Technical Advisory Board (TAB) as industry and independent representatives for a period of three years following a recent open and fair recruitment exercise that was carried out in accordance with the Governance Code on Public Appointments.

In accordance with the Governance Code on Public Appointments, the Home Secretary has also consented to re-appoint Jonathan Hoyle, the existing independent Chair, for a third term of three years beginning on May 1, 2021.

The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act of 2000 created the TAB, a non-departmental public agency whose mandate was widened by the Investigatory Powers Act of 2016.

The TAB’s two primary responsibilities are:

to provide guidance to the Secretary of State in the event that a telecoms operator (TO) requests a review of a notice by taking into account both the technical requirements and the financial implications.
