Andre Onana hangs up his international football gloves

Andre Onana, the goalkeeper for Cameroon and Inter Milan, formally announced his retirement from international football on Friday.

The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), chaired by Samuel Eto’o, suspended the 26-year-old for disciplinary issues during the World Cup in Qatar.

The first-string goalkeeper was listed as “missing” on the team sheet for England’s 3-3 draw with Serbia in Group G of the World Cup.

In response to accusations of a disagreement over tactics, head coach Rigobert Song told the media that he had to “put the team ahead of the individual.”

Despite not providing context or reasons for his retirement, Onana stated in a statement that his “journey with the Cameroonian national team has ended” and that he “will continue to support as a fan.”
