ANC elects Siboniso Duma as the new national chairperson

Siboniso Duma, the newly elected African National Congress (ANC) chairperson in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), used his victory address to call for harmony within the party.

Duma’s remarks after a contentious convention where crucial positions were won by supporters of the party’s so-called “Taliban” group. With 930 votes to 665, he defeated Sihle Zikalala for the position of chair.

While Sipho Hlomuka has returned as the Deputy Provincial Secretary, Nomagugu Simelane is now the Deputy Provincial Chairperson.

The new ANC KZN Treasurer is Ntuthuko Mahlaba, while the new provincial secretary is Bheki Mtolo.

“In the ANC, there is no victor, and our province lacks the spirit of the victor and the defeated.

All material time will be dominated by the issue of unity.

We’ll get right to work since I believe we are all aware of the outcomes of the most recent local government elections.

We will make sure to bring our people together, return to society, and embrace nearly all of the concerns that need to be handled.

The leaving leadership, especially Sihle Zikalala, should be praised for the work they have done and must also be welcomed, Siboniso Duma told attendees at the ANC KZN elective conference.

“We must continue the work of the departing PEC, which was headed by comrade Sihle Zikalala, the current premier of KwaZulu-Natal and the former chairwoman.

He is our comrade, and comrade Mdumiseni informed him that their work was excellent; the conference is a true testament to that, Duma stated.

Following Duma’s announcement that he wouldn’t be delivering the conference’s closing address due to other obligations, it was just learned that ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa will.

It wasn’t immediately obvious why Ramaphosa wouldn’t be there, but some have speculated that it might be because members of his ANC faction lost to members of the other faction.
