Alimosho Model City Plan: Lagos State Government set up a technical committee to review the outdated plan

A technical committee has been established by the Lagos State Government to study the old Alimosho Model City Plan.

In his remarks at the committee’s inauguration on Tuesday in Alausa, the commissioner for physical planning and urban development, Dr. Idris Salako, noted that the expired plan was one of the most important development plans created in 2010 with a timetable of ten years that expires in 2020.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Director of Technical Services, Tpl. Bola Aliu, stated that periodic reviews were required for the Operative Development Plans to stay current, applicable, and trustworthy in order to fulfil the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of transforming Lagos into a 21st-century economy.

Salako revealed that the evaluation will produce a twenty-year plan and added that it would consider the geographic coverage, geometric population growth, and physical obstacles of the Alimosho Local Government Area as well as neighbouring municipalities.

He said that the physical and environmental problems in the area, such as recurring flooding, wetland encroachment, careless garbage disposal and management, and a lack of open areas for recreation, had been brought to the notice of the consultants, Messrs Corporate Castles Limited.

He asked the members of the Technical Committee, which was made up of officials from several Lagos State Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), to carry out their duties in a professional manner and give the data required for the exercise to be successful.

Following the commissioning of similar groups for the Review of Lekki Comprehensive Master Plan and the Preparation of Ibeju-Lekki Model City Plan earlier in July, the State Government has now established a third committee for the review of the Alimosho Model City Plan.
