After ‘pushing’ Matt Hancock on Tube, 61-year-old charged with common assault

Former health secretary Matt Hancock was allegedly assaulted on the London Underground by a guy.

British Transport Police (BTP) said today that Geza Tarjanyi, 61, of Leyland in Lancashire, will appear in court next month on charges of common assault and two public order offenses.

An “unpleasant interaction” took place on Tuesday at Westminster station before continuing on a subway train, according to a spokeswoman for the MP for West Suffolk.

A allegation of a man being “assaulted and harassed” at the station near to the House of Commons around 9am prompted BTP to take action.

Tarjanyi was granted bail and told to show up in court on February 22 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

The individual has now been detained, according to Mr. Hancock’s spokesperson, who added that both Transport for London personnel and the British Transport Police “were great.”

He said, “This kind of behavior is unusual,” and he emphasized the “importance of putting an end to false disinformation that does so much damage.”

When the coronavirus pandemic broke out, Mr. Hancock, 44, was the health secretary. He played a significant role in the subsequent lockdown measures and vaccination distribution.

He left his position when a leaked CCTV photograph revealed him kissing a staff member in his office, going against his own social distance advice.

When Mr. Hancock flew to the Australian jungle to participate on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, he infuriated his coworkers and constituents. but came in third after gaining some compassion from TV viewers.

He said he would not run for reelection in the next election after losing the Conservative whip due to the incident.
