Joelinton, 26, is charged with drink-driving

Joelinton, a football player for Newcastle United, admitted guilt to driving under the influence and was sentenced to a 12-month driving suspension and a $31,085 fine.

On January 12 at about 1:20 a.m., the 26-year-old Ponteland resident was stopped in his Mercedes, according to Northumbria Police.

The Brazilian celebrity was accused of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Joelinton Cássio Apolinário de Lira, a midfielder for Newcastle Upon Tyne, made his court appearance this morning about 8.30am.

The legal limit for breath alcohol content is 35 micrograms, however the court was informed that the defendant’s measurement was 43 micrograms in 100 milliliters of breath.

He admitting to having two glasses of wine that night, and a breathalyzer test was performed on the side of the road.

He was given a 12-month suspension, although that might be cut to nine months if he successfully completes a program for recovering from drunk driving.

Northumbria Police said earlier this month that just before 1.20am today, police stopped a car in Newcastle’s Ponteland Road neighborhood and detained the driver.

Joelinton Cassio, 26, of Ponteland, has subsequently been accused of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

He is scheduled to appear before Newcastle magistrates on January 26.
