After Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd, Anthony Albanese examines Scott Morrison

Anthony Albanese has been charged with being “obsessed” with Scott Morrison and pursuing the covert employment issue solely for the purpose of causing the Coalition the most electoral harm possible.

The prime minister, who is now leading in the polls, said on Tuesday that despite the actions being perfectly legal, he would press for an investigation into why and how his predecessor covertly swore himself into five cabinet positions.

Though the specifics of the investigation have not yet been determined, Tony Abbott’s decision to convene two Royal Commissions on the past Labor administration is already being compared.

One looked into Kevin Rudd’s 2009 Home Insulation Program, which resulted in the deaths of four tradies, while the other looked into union corruption and included interrogating Bruce Wilson, Julia Gillard’s ex-boyfriend from 1990.

Mr. Albanese has attempted to dispel any claims that his investigation is influenced by politics.

He said on Tuesday that the investigation “has to be not a political probe but an inquiry with an eminent person with a legal background to assess all the ramifications.”

However, Coalition lawmakers think the prime minister is pursuing the matter for personal advantage.

According to Luke Howarth, the shadow defence industry minister and Liberal MP for Petrie: Australia’s citizens reject these divisive politics.

‘I find it troubling that Anthony Albanese is fascinated with Scott Morrison.

“He has to get on with running the country, quit staring in the rearview mirror, and focus on his obligations, like cutting electricity costs by $275 annually.”

Without informing the public or the Cabinet, Mr. Morrison surreptitiously took the oath of office as minister of health, finance, resources, home affairs, and treasurer in 2020 and 2021.

Although Mr. Morrison’s actions were entirely lawful, the solicitor general advised Mr. Albanese that they “undermined” the idea of responsible governance.

Mr. Albanese promised to ensure that all upcoming ministry appointments must be made public.

But even after closing the gap, he still wants further research.

He said on Tuesday that it was imperative to guarantee complete trust in our democratic system moving ahead.

Mr. Morrison has pledged his cooperation but maintained that the state premiers must be included in any Covid-19 probe.

Senator Hollie Hughes, a Democrat, said that it would be incorrect to limit the investigation to Mr. Morrison.

“The correct course of action moving ahead is an investigation of the national Covid response, including the conduct of the previous Prime Minister,” she told Daily Mail Australia.

All leaders, including premiers, need to be investigated. Not just Scott Morrison.

“The previous Prime Minister has been exonerated of any criminality,” she said. Anthony Albanese needs to proceed now.

Sussan Ley, the deputy leader of the Liberal Party, asked Mr. Albanese to pay attention to the rising cost of living, adding, “I don’t accept the ongoing emphasis on events of two years ago.”

In addition, Mr. Abbott said that the political process is the greatest option when decent, rational behaviour is lacking and that a review would be preferable than an investigation.

Malcolm Turnbull said that the committee should look into the public employees who were aware of Mr. Morrison’s attempt to usurp power but did nothing to stop it.

It follows a Resolve Strategic survey released in Nine newspapers on Tuesday that revealed Labor’s primary vote increased to 42% from roughly 33% ahead of the May 21 election.

The primary vote for the Coalition has decreased from 36% to 28%.

By a margin of 55% to 17%, Mr. Albanese is ahead of Opposition Leader Peter Dutton in the poll for preferred prime minister.

Resolve director Jim Reed told Nine media, “It’s not unusual for a new administration to have a honeymoon phase when people are hoping for change under the new management.”

But Labor’s vote increase was more than that. This electorate is expressing relief that they all made the proper decision.

The 2011 voter survey was conducted from Wednesday to Sunday, just around the time when news broke about Mr. Morrison being covertly inducted into five cabinet positions.

The survey, according to Labor Minister Bill Shorten, demonstrated that the party’s support was still strong after the election.

Opinion of the solicitor general on Scott Morrison’s covert employment

In 2020 and 2021, Mr. Morrison secretly appointed himself minister of finance, health, resources, home affairs, and treasurer.

In a damning assessment released on Tuesday, the solicitor general said that although Mr. Morrison’s actions were lawful, they “undermined” the idea of responsible governance.

This is due to the fact that if ministers’ names are kept a secret, neither Parliament nor the general public can hold them accountable.

The inability to separate ministerial duties made Mr. Morrison’s covert appointments challenging.

Since senior public workers were kept in the dark, the actions also damaged the relationship between the ministries and the public service.

According to the findings, the governor-general had “no choice to ignore the prime minister’s suggestion to designate him as minister.” This exonerated the governor-general.

New regulations mandating the disclosure of ministerial appointees were suggested by the study.
