Accident on N14 East leaves three dead, several seriously people injured

On Thursday morning, three people were killed on the N14 between Krugersdorp and Diepsloot to the west of Johannesburg.

Sello Maremane, a spokesperson for the Gauteng Traffic Police, said that a vehicle carrying what is thought to be an unroadworthy overloaded trailer lost control and toppled on the R511 offramp, causing a collision with a pickup truck.

He said that three people died and numerous more were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Earlier last month, former Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula inaugurated the 2022 festive season road safety campaign at the Heidelberg weighbridge in Gauteng, which seeks to prioritise and promote holiday road safety.

One of its primary goals is to preserve law and order on the roads in order to avoid reckless and irresponsible driving that might result in collisions and deaths.

As the road is temporarily obstructed, motorists are encouraged to use other routes.
