A young man has tragically dies after a fire broke out overnight in a unit block in western Sydney

A horrific fire that started overnight in a unit building in western Sydney claimed the life of a young guy.

Just before 2.45am on Monday, emergency services were summoned to an apartment on Campbell Street in Parramatta due to reports of a fire.

When police arrived, the apartments below had been evacuated as firefighters battled the incident and the third-floor unit was completely engulfed in flames.

A 20-year-old male fled to the balcony and was rescued by a ladder while firefighters pushed their way inside the apartment and discovered a 27-year-old man who was unconscious inside the structure.

The two males were attended to by paramedics on the scene before being taken urgently to Westmead Hospital.

The 20-year-old was stable, while the 27-year-old was in critical condition.

Despite all of the medical staff’s best efforts, the 27-year-old guy passed away in the hospital shortly after 5 a.m.

The cause of the fire is yet unknown, but an investigation into the incident has started.

For the Coroner’s information, a report will be created.
