A yellow cab crashes into many pedestrians in New York City leaving four people injured

On Monday, a taxi jumped a curb and plowed into many pedestrians on a Manhattan sidewalk, injuring at least four individuals, three of whom were critically injured.

It happened shortly before 1 p.m. at 1186 Broadway in the Flatiron District, between West 28th and 29th streets.

According to police, the taxi SUV was heading northbound on Broadway when it jumped the curb, injured numerous individuals, and crashed into a building.

Three persons in critical condition were taken to Bellevue Hospital. Their true identities have not been revealed.

The taxi driver was treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.

The taxi was on the sidewalk and some of the plant barriers were destroyed, according to video and images from the scene in front of Black Seed Bagel and Juice Generation. A wrecked bike had been abandoned in the bike lane.

People should expect traffic delays, road closures, and emergency personnel in the area of Broadway and West 29th Street, according to the Emergency Management department. Drivers should choose another route.

Authorities have not provided any additional information. It is unknown what caused the occurrence. The crash is still being investigated.
