Saudi Arabia said on Friday that a man who was wanted by security personnel killed himself with an explosive belt to evade capture and injured four others in the blast.

Al-Shehri reportedly detonated the bomb belt as security personnel closed in on him on Wednesday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

According to the report, the injured included three security personnel and a Pakistani national.

Authorities have been looking for Al-Shehri for seven years, according to Reuters, citing state TV. On what specific allegations he was sought after was unclear at first.

The Saudi Press Agency article didn’t include any information on al-past Shehri’s or if he belonged to any recognised terrorist organisations.

The Islamic State and al Qaeda terrorists have been fought by the kingdom.
