A man has been detained over three related attacks in the Scottish Highlands, including one involving a firearm

A man has been detained in connection with three attacks in the Scottish Highlands, one of which may have involved a firearm.

The 39-year-old is thought to have ties to the events that occurred on the Isle of Skye and in Dornie this morning, but has been arrested.

At 9 a.m., it was reported that a woman had been injured at a home in the Tarksavaig region of the Scottish island. The police and emergency services hurried to the site.

The suspect apparently used guns, and an emergency services chopper reportedly responded to the location.

In addition, there is a continual police presence in Teangue on Skye, despite police assurances that the community is not at danger.

Locals have stated that the culprit is suspected to have used a knife and a handgun in a series of assaults, although police have not yet verified this.

‘Stabbing in Sleat, then shotgun in Dornie,’ stated one resident. ‘ The victim is on the way to hospital.

‘This is from a Dornie resident. Don’t know if the perpetrator is caught yet.’

Another member wrote, ‘The perpetrator has been caught.  I believe three people have been stabbed, two shot and killed so far I heard.’

The police have described the incident as “contained” after the man’s detention.

Speaking today a police Scotland spokesperson said: ‘We were made aware of a woman injured at a property in the Tarskavaig area on Skye shortly before 9am on Wednesday, August 10.

‘Police are also attending two further incidents in Teangue on Skye and Dornie which are being linked.

‘A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incidents. At this stage we believe the situation is contained and there is no risk to the wider community.

‘Enquiries are ongoing.’

SNP MP for Skye and Lochaber, Ian Blackford, said: ‘Very concerning news and my thoughts are with all those affected.

‘As more details come to light, the response of the emergency services seems to have stopped this incident spreading even further than it did.

‘Thank you for the work that you do. The victims of these crimes will, I’m sure, remain in all our immediate thoughts.’
