Scottish hillwalker died after plunging down a mountain in the Highlands

A Scottish hillwalker who unfortunately passed away last week after falling down a mountain in the Highlands has received an outpouring of condolences.

It is believed that Glasgow resident Lachlan Macdonald, 46, lost his balance while standing on a hill and fell backward down a cliff close to the Isle of Skye.

The father-of-one passed while “doing what he loved most” on September 17 at approximately 12 p.m. while hiking via Forcan Ridge, a path that is regarded as difficult, on The Saddle, the top.

He was said to have “kindness, compassion, and the capacity to bring out the best in any circumstance” and to “light up a hillside in seconds.”

Louise Strutt, a close friend of his, started the tributes with a moving post on social media.

It has taken me the whole day to even be able to write this, but with my heart utterly torn, I’m publishing the terrible news that my friend, our hillwalking families Lachlan Macdonald, tragically lost his life yesterday in a devastating accident on the Forcan Ridge.

“My huge Jambo friend is gone, and my days in the mountains of our lovely nation will never be the same.”

“A guy who could instantly light up a mountainside.” Your kindness, love, and capacity to make each situation better. To the munros and back, my buddy, I love you.

“Rest easy big man, you were genuinely one in a million and I’ll miss you forever,” said Sophie McKenna. My heart is broken.

Lachlan Macdonald, RIP, stated Allan Clacher. I’ll never forget the giggles we had together or the early morning I came to your aid in shining armour as you were lost in Pollokshaws Road. You were a gem of a man, sir. Keep flying, brother.

“Good night and sleep tight Lachlan Macdonald, you are in a very good place now RIP,” stated Neil Jeffrey.

The funeral expenses for Lachlan’s family are being covered via a crowdfunding.

It is with a very sad heart that I want to notify you that our only son Lachlan lost his life after falling from a mountain near Clunnie, according to a message on the website from his mother Margaret.

He was engaged in his favourite activity, mountain climbing. We just cannot comprehend what has happened to our beautiful son.

“Words can’t even begin to describe how we feel,” I said. “He was a great dad to Alannah, brother to Karen, uncle to teeny Calum, and son to Calum and myself.”

According to a Police Scotland spokeswoman, at approximately 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, “we were informed that a 46-year-old male had collapsed while walking on The Saddle in Kintail.”

‘Subsequently, with the aid of the HM Coastguard helicopter and the Kintail and Glenelg mountain rescue teams, his corpse was discovered and retrieved.

The Procurator Fiscal has received a report, and there are no suspicious circumstances.
