A man dies and three other people were hospitalized due to a suspected gas explosion in Swansea

An explosion occurred in Swansea, leaving one man dead and three others hospitalized.

The body of the missing man has been recovered, and his family has been informed by South Wales Police.

An adult and a boy who were admitted to Morriston Hospital have since been discharged.

Emergency services responded to the blast at an address on the junction of Clydach Road and Field Close in Morriston at just after 11.20 am on Monday.

The explosion damaged neighbouring properties, shook houses miles from the scene, and left debris scattered across the surrounding area.

Residents in nearby areas reported hearing a loud explosion, and shoppers in a nearby Lidl said the whole building shook. Roof tiles rained down in gardens, and bits of pipe smashed windows.

Two adults and a child were brought to A&E at Morriston Hospital after neighbours saw a boy being pulled from the rubble, and one person was unaccounted for.

However, the police confirmed that the body of a man was found.

Superintendent Steve Jones expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and those affected by the tragic incident.

He also thanked the community for their patience and support.

The missing man was described as “very well-liked” and a “friendly person” by the local community.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident, and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

Wales & West Utilities, which maintains the gas network across Wales and the southwest of England, sent engineers to the site.

Mid and West Fire Service teams worked to isolate the gas mains.

An emergency centre for residents was set up in Morriston Memorial Hall, with more than 20 households needing temporary accommodation.

Swansea Council’s Andrea Lewis said that some households might be in temporary accommodation for a while.

Local churches are offering support, and an emergency meeting will be held to discuss how to handle the outpouring of offers.
