A man and woman died in a two-car collision near Dubbo, but three children were saved

A man and a woman were killed in a tragic two-car collision on an outback road near Dubbo, but three young children were rescued from one of the cars.

Friday at 4:00 p.m., emergency personnel rushed to Goolma Road, some 77 kilometres east of the regional centre of Dubbo in central west New South Wales.

Upon arrival, crews discovered the wreckage of two automobiles that had collided.

A male driver of a Ford Falcon ute, age 29, and a female passenger of a Toyota Landcruiser Prado, age 63, were declared dead at the site.

Then, emergency responders, firemen, and rescue professionals collaborated to extricate a man, a woman, and three small children from the severely damaged Toyota.

Inspector of the NSW Ambulance Service Craig Hall described the sight as “very distressing scene.”

Before the three children were transported to Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney, paramedics treated survivors at the scene of the crash.

A woman in her twenties was brought to the Mudgee Hospital for abdominal pains.

‘Paramedics called for blood supplies to be sent from Mudgee Hospital and we had four rescue helicopters on scene,’ said Inspector Hall, reported the ABC.

‘Incidents such as these are always confronting, but particularly so when children are involved.’

Police said their investigators are still working to understand the nature of the crash on the two lane regional highway.

‘Officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District established a crime scene, which will be examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit,’ said police.

‘An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway.’

The huge rescue effort comprised workers from Fire and Rescue New South Wales and the Volunteer Rescue Association.

The traffic between Wellington and Gulgong, situated at either end of the Goolma highway, was rerouted onto alternative local roads.
