A gang celebrating a member’s release from prison started a 100-person fistfight at a Tokyo tower restaurant

Sunday evening, over 100 people engaged in a major fistfight at a French restaurant in Tokyo, according to Japanese media.

Kyodo News said that the guests booked the full modern French restaurant Sunshine Cruise Cruise on the 58th story of the Sunshine 60, a skyscraper in the Ikebukuro neighborhood. The brawl looked to involve members of the Chinese Dragon gang, according to Kyodo News, which cited an unidentified source with knowledge of the inquiry.

The Asahi Shimbun said that 100 people came to celebrate the release of a gang member from prison, citing an unknown source.

According to the Asahi Shimbun, the fight was reported to police at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday after restaurant personnel placed an emergency call. It is unclear how many customers remained when the Tokyo police came, as the majority of those involved in the incident swiftly left the restaurant.

The Asahi Shimbun said that a man who remained in the eatery was transported to the hospital with a minor head injury.

Sunday Twitter posts depicted a convoy of emergency cars coming in front of the Sunshine 60 building.

A number of Twitter videos depicted a group of police officers assembled in front of the Sunshine Cruise Cruise restaurant.

An employee of Sunshine Cruise Cruise who answered Insider’s call stated that she was unable to confirm or comment on the incident due to an ongoing police investigation.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police informed Kyodo News that they discovered shattered beer bottles and glasses at the restaurant and are investigating a possible case of property damage. The Tokyo police department did not react immediately to Insider’s request for comment sent through the Japan Foreign Press Center.

According to Kyodo News, the Chinese Dragon gang has ties to Japanese crime syndicates but is not considered an established criminal organization.

It is popularly thought that its members are the descendants of Japanese children who were abandoned in China during Japan’s disorderly withdrawal at the end of World War II. Many of these descendants returned to Japan in the future.
