A drowsy driver killed 4 and wounded 8 in New Jersey

In New Jersey, four passengers were killed and eight were wounded when a passenger van toppled after the driver apparently dozed off.

Twelve individuals from an unidentified factory in Upstate New York were inside the black van when it crashed on Palisades Parkway in Englewood Cliffs around 1:30 in the morning.

Responders at the site told the Daily Voice that authorities suspect the motorist may have dozed off at the wheel early on Friday.

The eight who survived had injuries ranging from moderate to serious brain injuries, while the four who died were claimed to have had severe trauma.

At this point, it is uncertain whether the driver is one of the victims.

Firefighters had to free the victims from the vehicle after seven ambulances, several emergency services, and others arrived on the site.

As they attempted to extricate the passengers inside the vehicle, firefighters could be seen strewn over the road with a variety of tools and supplies.

Four additional survivors were transported by ambulance, while one was flown to Hackensack University Medical Center.

The other survivors travelled to Jersey City Medical Center, Holy Name Medical Center, and Englewood Hospital.

The passenger vehicle was seen upside down in a forested median between the two sides of the Parkway until the accident was cleaned up at 7am.

By the time rescuers arrived, the car’s top had been torn off and its rear windows had been broken.

The victims had to be extracted from the car by emergency services.

Throughout the night, a sizable police presence was seen on the area.

Van is shown on its left side in photographs of the collision taken in daylight.

Throughout the night, there was a noticeable police presence on the location, with what seemed to be around a dozen police, fire, and emergency workers aiding the situation.
