Last weekend, a high school student died after falling off of a quad bike. He was known for being kind, good at basketball, and having a “cheeky smile.”
On Sunday around 12:30 p.m., Justin Harris, who was 17 years old, fell from an ATV on a property in Mount Evelyn, which is 46 km east of Melbourne.
The 12th grader was treated by paramedics at the scene, but they couldn’t save him.
A teenage girl who was with him and had minor injuries was taken to the hospital.
Justin went to school in Lilydale at Edinburgh College. He was a good basketball player, a big music fan, and a fan of being outside.
Tim Drewitt, who used to be Justin’s basketball coach, said that he was “extremely polite” and acted much older than he was.
Mr. Drewitt said that the teenager was always trying to be the best he could be, whether it was in basketball or music, which he loved.
“His hard work always stood out. The hours we spent working on his game at the stadium, including his free throws and jump shots, the coach told the Herald Sun.
He said that Justin was “one of the kindest boys” and that he “always had time for those around him, especially those who were younger or still getting their feet.”
Mr. Drewitt said he will miss Justin’s “cheeky smile” and their “in-depth conversations about life, sports, and the outdoors.”
He also said that Justin’s death had left a “hole in so many hearts,” which was “a true sign of the kind of young man he was.”
People in the area have also talked about the death of what one person called a “beautiful boy” on social media.
Clare Jones said, “It was such an honor to teach and talk with him.”
“He made people laugh and brought out the best in them,” they said.
Natalie Rae thought that Justin had a “beautiful soul” and that he was “absolutely amazing.”
