Dwyane Wade’s transgender daughter, Zaya, has legally changed her name and gender, which was approved by a judge in Los Angeles County on Friday.
Zaya, who came out as trans in February 2020, is now officially recognized as female, and her full legal name is Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade.
Her father, Dwyane, had initially filed a petition for the change in August 2022.
Dwyane and Zaya’s mother, Siohvaughn Funches, have had differing opinions on how to handle the matter, with Dwyane advocating for Zaya’s right to live comfortably and honestly and Funches opposing the change.
However, Dwyane had full authority to proceed without Funches’ consent, as he has had sole custody of Zaya since 2011.
