“Youngest in Britain” 10-year-old makes beer

For a few more years, he won’t be old enough to try his own creations.

Huw Newman, 10, is now without a doubt the youngest brewer in Britain notwithstanding this fact.

The kid produced Galaxy Druid ale by choosing the hops and malt at his father Tom’s small artisan brewery based on how they smell.

His creation, dubbed a hazy and zesty IPA, is now being sold at a nearby bar after wowing the staff with its flavor.

According to his father Tom, who manages Lines Brew Co. in Usk, Monmouthshire, Wales, “Huw has been around the brewery for years and he’s always liked the fragrance and the process of how the ingredients are converted into beer.”

So, it seemed sense that he would want to make his own beer.

Huw was actively engaged in the brewing process, putting in the grain and mixing the grist in addition to utilizing his great sense of smell to choose the components.

He even came up with the name, which was influenced by a space-related school project, and supplied concepts for the logo to a Bristol graffiti artist hired for the project.

The completion is fantastic, Huw commented this week.

I’ve liked putting it all together since science is something I’m quite interested in.

I picked hops since they have a fruity aroma; I don’t like strong-smelling plants.

If I don’t grow up to be a well-known rugby player, I’d want to be a brewer and try out new flavors.

Huw will host a “meet the brewer” event at The Little Tap House in neighboring Newport to formally launch the completed product, which has a comparatively low ABV of 4.3%.

He thinks Huw is the youngest commercial brewer in Wales at least, and his father, a brewing consultant with his own orchard to supply his variety of fruit brews, is contemptuous of anybody who argues it’s an inappropriate setting for a 10-year-old.

The 47-year-old claimed, “He won’t be able to taste what he’s making, but he can do it all solely on scent.”

It’s not about getting wasted; we’re aiming for sophisticated drinkers.

He is a natural and likes to participate.

I think that every child should choose their own route, but if he is interested and has tried it, the door is open.

Iola, Huw’s 12-year-old sister, is prepared to bake pizza when the brewery opens to paying clients later in the spring since it is a family business.

When she grows up, she wants to be a chef, according to Mr. Newman of Caerleon.

I will be thrilled for anything they choose to accomplish in life as long as the kids are happy, therefore I think it’s fantastic.

Underage drinkers are not allowed to purchase alcohol or consume it in public, but 16 and 17-year-olds are allowed to have beer, wine, or cider with a meal in a licensed establishment, with the exception of Northern Ireland.

Theoretically, it is legal to administer alcohol to children above the age of five at home.
