Mbuso Moloi, the individual who participated in looting a Woolworths store in Glenwood, Durban during the July unrest in 2021, will face sentencing on Friday, 7 July.
His actions were captured in a widely circulated video on social media, showing him loading a basket of stolen goods into a Mercedes Benz parked near the looted Woolworths food store on Bulwer Road in Glenwood.
Following his identification in the video, Moloi was subsequently arrested and charged with public violence, theft, and trespassing.
Bail and Asset Forfeiture
Currently, Moloi is out on bail of R5,000, which was granted to him a year and a half ago.
Moreover, the Asset Forfeiture Unit seized his vehicle, considering it a tool used in committing the crime.
Trial Proceedings and Guilty Plea
After much anticipation, Moloi’s trial commenced in the Durban Regional Court on Monday, 27 March, only to be adjourned to Wednesday, 29 March.
Referred to as the “Woolies looter,” Moloi pleaded guilty to theft and violating the National Road Traffic Regulation.
However, his sentencing was postponed to July due to pending pre-sentencing reports.
