The Motsepe Foundation announced on Thursday that businesswoman, philanthropist, and medical practitioner Precious Moloi-Motsepe has joined the Harvard University Global Advisory Council.

As a member of the advisory council, the chancellor of the University of Cape Town, Moloi-Motsepe, joins other significant commercial, academic, and government figures from across the world to assist the institution’s growth.

She has been honored with various accolades for her work. These include offering scholarships to impoverished youth and women, empowering youth, and supporting the health of women.

According to the release, Moloi-Motsepe seeks to strengthen information exchange between the institution and African scholars.

She co-founded the Motsepe Presidential Research Accelerator Fund for Africa in 2020, according to the announcement.

“To support faculty-led and student-driven research initiatives, the fund is awarded to researchers working in multi-disciplinary collaborations between Harvard professors and African academics, with an emphasis on furthering critical issues and opportunities facing the African continent.

“Moloi-Motsepe has been a longtime donor to Harvard University, serving on the Harvard Women’s Leadership Board and the Harvard Kennedy School Centre for Public Leadership.

Dr. Moloi-Motsepe has enabled access to the Harvard Social Innovation + Change Initiative at the Harvard Kennedy School for Social Entrepreneurs through forging numerous relationships over the years.

In 2017, the United Nations in New York presented Moloi-Motsepe with the Fashion 4 Development Franca Sozzani Award. Moloi-Motsepe is the creator and CEO of African Fashion International, which promotes African designers and enables them access to worldwide markets.

The award recognizes her dedication to promoting African fashion designers and empowering impoverished women.

“She joins important figures such as David M Rubenstein, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Dr. Charles Chen Yidan, and others on the Harvard University Global Advisory Council.

“This network and the ability to strengthen worldwide connections will strengthen the Motsepe Foundation’s efforts. In a congratulatory statement, the Motsepe Foundation trustees said, “This is most applicable to the Motsepe Foundation’s efforts in education, as we seek innovative pathways to close gaps in accessing quality education and skills that will make Africa’s youth globally competitive.”
