Woman who murdered her husband has been jailed in Mpumalanga

In Mpumalanga, the woman responsible for the murder of her husband, who was shot down at his home’s gate, has been jailed.

58-year-old taxi owner Devillier Dan Zulu arrived at his residence at around 04:00 on 4 July 2011 morning.

When he arrived, he contacted his wife to unlock the gate at Extension 5 in Embalenhle for him. Two individuals ambushed him as he approached the yard, shot him dead, and then left the scene, according to the Hawks.

The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in Secunda was tasked with the murder investigation.

During the investigation based on information, it was determined that Thembisa Zulu, 47, was the mastermind behind the shooting, according to Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi.

Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said, “She hired two hitmen, Seetsa David Mofokeng, 44, and Mojalefa Christopher Matsobane, 43, who ambushed the deceased in his residence.”

The two assassins were apprehended on September 2, 2016, as a result of an exhaustive investigation. On September 19 of that year, Zulu, the wife, was apprehended on the basis of evidence.

“The accused were later released on R5 000 bail each,” stated Sekgotodi.

Zulu and her accomplices were proven guilty of murder and jailed on Thursday by the Delmas High Court.

Each of the defendants was sentenced to life in prison for the murder.

Mofokeng was sentenced to an additional five years in jail for the illegal possession of a weapon. He received an extra three years for illegal possession of ammunition, according to Sekgotodi.

The sentences will run concurrently, and they are all prohibited from possessing weapons.

The commander of the Mpumlanga Hawks, Major General Zodwa Mokoena, commended the investigating officer for his tenacity in ensuring that the accused was subjected to the full force of the law.

“The release of the accused on bail did not deter the investigating officer on his goal of a successful prosecution and I also applaud the judiciary on such a decisive judgement,” Mokoena said.
