Woman killed when she is attacked by dog as 42-year-old man suffers life-changing hand injuries 

Police have reported that a dog attack resulted in the death of a woman and the suffering of life-altering injuries for a man.

The tragedy happened Friday night at around 10 o’clock in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, and the 43-year-old woman was declared dead there.

A 42-year-old male was taken to the hospital in a critical condition after suffering a hand injury, according to South Yorkshire Police.

According to the force, he also sustained injuries to his wrist, abdomen, and face during the incident.

Officers have taken two dogs from the property and taken them into custody.

According to the Dangerous Dogs Act of 1991, neither is a “banned breed,” according to South Yorkshire Police.

‘We were called to a property on Masefield Road in West Melton at about 10.15 last night by a member of the public reporting a dog had attacked himself and a woman,’ according to a statement from the force.

‘Officers attended with a Yorkshire Ambulance [Service] crew and found a man, aged 42, with a potentially life-altering injury to one hand, plus injuries to his other hand, abdomen and face. He was transported to hospital for further treatment.

‘The woman, aged 43, had been fatally bitten and despite the best efforts of emergency crews was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

‘The dog, plus another dog at the property, were secured by specially trained officers. Neither dog was of a banned breed.’
