Williams releases Nicholas Latifi

Paris — Nicholas Latifi, a Canadian Formula One driver, will depart the Williams team at the conclusion of the 2022 campaign, the British team said on Friday.

Williams confirmed the addition of Thai-British racing driver Alexander Albon for the 2019 season, but did not name Latifi’s replacement for the 2020 season.

Latifi has competed in 55 Grands Prix for Williams and has accumulated a grand total of seven points.

The 27-year-old finished 21st in the world championships the previous season and 17th the year before.

Latifi, son of the owner of Williams’ sponsor Sofina, recalled his time with the racing team with fondness.

“Even though we did not get the results we had hoped for, it has nonetheless been an incredible trip,” he remarked.

“Earning my first points in Hungary was a moment I will never forget, and I will enter the next chapter of my career with memorable memories.”

Team principal Jost Capito wished his driver continued success.

“He is an excellent team player with a positive mindset. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors, both within and outside the cockpit.”
