Whoever shot five wild horses in eastern Nevada in October is still at large

Authorities are still looking for the person or people who shot five wild horses last October in eastern Nevada, roughly 70 miles west of the Utah border, and the prize has increased to $10,000 as a result.

On November 16, near Jakes Valley, approximately 30 miles west of Ely and 2 miles south of U.S. Highway 50, four horses, including one with an attached aborted pregnancy, were discovered dead within 600 yards of one another.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, a fifth horse was still alive but had to be put to death due to its terrible injuries.

The bureau stated on Thursday that the American Wild Horse Campaign will increase its $5,000 prize for information leading to the capture and conviction of those guilty for the animals’ deaths from the $5,000 it had previously given.

According to Holly Gann Bice, director of government relations for the campaign, “We believe that boosting this prize will assist lead to an arrest and conviction for this brutality.”

The horses’ ages were confirmed by a necropsy to be between 18 months and six years old. According to the bureau, the animals were murdered on or around the day a member of the public discovered them on Nov. 16.

The perpetrator(s) of these horrific actions should be brought to justice, and Bice expressed gratitude to the Bureau of Land Management for providing a reward for information leading to their capture.

As part of the organization’s enforcement of the Wild Horse and Burro Act of 1971, the BLM looks into and brings cases against anyone who kill wild horses.

Call the BLM’s crime hotline at 775-861-6550 if you have any information.
