Who is Maya Jama on Love Island United Kingdom?
Maya Jama is the new host of Love Island UK starting this season, as revealed in October.
This is not Jama’s first time hosting. She has worked as a TV presenter in the UK for for a decade, notably as co-host of the original Circle and host of Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star for two seasons. The latter series is a Netflix original in the United States.
In her first episode as the host of Love Island, Jama made sure to be present and make an impression. On the day of the UK premiere earlier this month, Jama posted a photo of herself on Instagram wearing the instantly recognizable red crochet dress with the comment “Hope I make you all proud.”
Regarding the red crochet number, it was designed by Sierra Ndagire, a 25-year-old fashion designer. Ndagire stated in an interview with the BBC that she was “overwhelmed” when Jama’s stylist contacted her. “It was incredible,” she continued. “Similar to when something causes an out-of-body experience.” The suit was created in a single day, with Ndagire working nonstop to complete it. “I flew in at midnight, stayed up all night, sewed the outfit, finished it, and delivered it the following morning, and then they flew it to South Africa,” Ndagire explained. I believe I slept for one hour that night.

What prompted Laura Whitmore’s departure from Love Island?
Maya Jama’s debut on Love Island coincides with Laura Whitmore’s departure from the series. Whitmore, who has hosted the series for the previous three seasons, has opted to leave the reality show owing to “certain elements of the show that cannot be changed due to the format.” In addition, filming in South Africa, the show’s new site, was problematic for her due to “conflicting projects.”
Whitmore concluded her Instagram post with, “I wish it were still possible, but you’ll be in good hands. I originally intended to step in for Caroline for one series, but ended up doing so for three. I hope I did you proud Caroline ” She is alluding to Caroline Flack, the original host of Love Island, who was discovered deceased at the age of 40 in January 2020. The subsequent month, Love Island UK broadcast an homage to Flack.
Daily at 3 a.m. ET, new episodes of Love Island Season 9 are added to Hulu.
