The White House announced the president’s diagnosis while also revealing that Joe Biden is fighting COVID-19 using the medication Paxlovid.
He has started using Paxlovid.
He will isolate at the White House in accordance with CDC recommendations, and he will continue to perform all of his duties completely throughout that period, according to Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
Patients who are thought to be at high risk of developing a major illness from the fatal virus, such as the elderly and those with underlying medical issues like heart disease, should take the anti-viral medication.
Even though the FDA approved the medicine in December to treat COVID, pharmacists were only recently given the go-ahead to dispense it.
According to PBS, doctors could only prescribe the medicine up until the beginning of July.
The Biden administration spent months attempting to broaden access to the medication, which research showed reduced hospitalizations and deaths in unvaccinated COVID patients by nearly 90%.
Despite those impressive figures, the medication was found to be less effective in treating patients who had received vaccinations, including Biden, who has received three vaccinations, and some patients’ symptoms have been seen to reappear after taking Paxlovid.
