What NEXT for Boris? Possible pitfalls for PM after confidence vote

Despite four out of ten Tory MPs asking for him to go, Boris Johnson is attempting to move on from today’s Tory confidence vote.

But the Prime Minister is far from safe, facing a slew of challenges against the backdrop of a fractious parliamentary party.

Conservatives are expected to lose by-elections in the Red Wall seat of Wakefield and the traditional blue heartland of Tiverton, according to polls.

This might spark a new round of scheming, especially as Mr Johnson is scheduled to go on a nine-day foreign tour around the same time, leaving events in Westminster to play out.

Meanwhile, with the economy faltering and inflation expected to reach double digits by the end of the year, the cost-of-living crisis shows no signs of abating.

Despite his best efforts, Partygate is expected to resurface as the powerful Privileges Committee probes if he deceived the House of Commons on purpose.
