When models and celebrities appear in their Sunday best, everyone takes notice. In November 2022, when model Gigi Hadid emerged on the red carpet of the CFDA Fashion Awards wearing an unmistakable matte grey lipstick, everyone desired a similar pout.
A TikTok craze emerged, and the color grey became ubiquitous shortly thereafter.
In addition to lipsticks and cosmetics, the trend extended to hairstyles. In fact, grey is becoming the season’s signature hue for all types of cosmetic trends.
At the CFDA Awards in 2022, when Julia Fox walked up with gray hair, she caused gasps. She styled her hair with a damp appearance and complemented it with her still-bleached eyebrows, frosted eyeshadow, and chrome jewelry. The whole appearance was futuristic, a major beauty trend that has subsequently seen on the red carpets of several award shows.
“This is a love letter to aging,” the 32-year-old stated of the gray hair, which was sprayed on and not a natural color. According to Dazed Digital, she said, “We’re embracing getting older.”
Matt Benns created her “granny glam” hairstyle, while Julian Stoller did her makeup, as reported by Dazed Digital.
Andie MacDowell has a reputation for embracing her natural gray hair. In fact, her hair appears so healthy that many doubt it is real.
The world first noticed her abundant brown hair in the film Four Weddings and a Funeral. And although MacDowell maintained her hair color over the years, she opted to stop using dye during lockdown.
