Vladimir Putin congratulates King Charles III after his accession

Vladimir Putin was the first foreign leader to congratulate King Charles III on Saturday following his Accession Ceremony.

Since 2014, when Charles compared Vladimir Putin to Adolf Hitler, the Russian President and the new King have had an especially chilly relationship.

The then-prince made the scathing remark to Jewish museum volunteer Marienne Ferguson after she described how her family fled Hitler.

As the first member of the Royal Family to publicly oppose Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, the King reignited tensions at the beginning of 2022.

He referred to the conflict as a “assault on democracy” and voiced his solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

Putin appeared to set aside all differences last week following the terrible passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Through the Twitter account of the Russian Embassy in the United Kingdom, he issued the following statement: ‘Please accept my warmest congratulations on your succession to the throne.

I wish Your Majesty success, health, and the best of luck.Vladimir Putin was the first world leader to congratulate King Charles III after his Accession Ceremony on Saturday

Putin also delivered a statement on Thursday, just after Buckingham Palace confirmed the death of the Queen.

He stated, “The most significant events in recent British history are closely tied with the name of Her Majesty.

In the next days, a Russian delegate will be picked to attend on his behalf.

In 2003, the Queen hosted Putin and his wife at Buckingham Palace.

Amid the current conflict in Ukraine, it is uncertain whether Putin and King Charles III will mend bridges in the near future.

Putin issued a statement characterizing Charles’ statement as ‘inappropriate’ and ‘incorrect’ in response to the Hitler comparison.

“Transmit my remarks to Prince Charles.” He has visited our country on multiple occasions. If he made such a comparison, it is improper, and I am certain that he knows that as a gentleman,’ he stated at the time.

The Russian Embassy further noted that the King’s great-uncle, Edward VIII, “was a personal buddy of Hitler” at the time.

This morning, during the historic ceremony at St. James’s Palace in London, King Charles III signed the Proclamation.

The then-Prince told a scathing assessment of the conduct of the Russian president to a woman who had lost family in the Holocaust: “And now Putin is doing roughly the same as Hitler.”

During a 2014 royal tour of Canada, King Charles met Marienne Ferguson, a museum worker whose Jewish family fled to Canada when she was 13 years old.

The 78-year-old was born in what is now the Polish city of Gdansk, an important flashpoint during World War II.

Several witnesses have heard it. Mrs. Ferguson, a mother of three, stated, “When I had completed showing him the exhibit, we discussed my family history and how I arrived in Canada.

The prince then stated, “And now Putin is acting almost identically to Hitler.”

I must admit that I agree with him, as I’m sure do many others. I was startled that he made the remark, as I am aware that members of the Royal Family are not permitted to say such things, but it was extremely sincere and genuine.

“I told the prince that while my family and I were fortunate to have a travel permission, many of my other relatives had permits but were unable to leave before the September 1 outbreak of war.” They were transferred to extermination camps where they perished.
