“Until further notice,” stage 6 load shedding has begun.

Eskom has said that Stage 6 load shedding will happen until further notice.
This is because the power company has given in to pressure from the breakdown of about eight power-generating units at power plants and problems getting enough coal.
“Since Sunday afternoon, one of the generating units at each of the Arnot, Hendrina, Lethabo, and Majuba power stations, as well as two of the units at the Camden power station, have broken down and are being fixed.
“Also, two generating units at the Lethabo power station were shut down because there wasn’t enough coal. The New Vaal Mine, which supplies the station, hasn’t been able to deliver the expected amount of coal over the past week because of heavy rains,” Eskom said.
The power company also said that the three remaining units at Lethabo power station are now running at minimum capacity and “are at risk of being shut down if the coal supply constraints are not fixed.”
Breakdowns at power plants have shut down about 21,243MW of capacity, and maintenance has shut down another 3,556MW.
“Because there are so many breakdowns, it’s possible that the stage of load shedding will change again soon. “Another update will be made public as soon as there are any major changes,” Eskom said. – SAnews.gov.za
