Unclaimed benefits worth millions of dollars await 60 Eastern Cape families

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport has initiated a search for the relatives of its deceased employees who may be eligible to receive their pension monies.

According to the agency, some employees with unclaimed pension benefits died as early as 2005.

Unathi Binqose, the department’s spokesperson, stated that the province administration wants to ensure that the recipients receive their dues.

“The department believes that this may provide much-needed relief to the families of some of the sixty deceased employees who may not even be aware of these unclaimed benefits,” Binqose stated.

“The majority of the murdered personnel worked in the department’s road infrastructure branch, repairing roads throughout the province.

“We are requesting that the public disseminate this information far and wide so that those eligible to claim these funds do so, as this may assist the surviving family members.”
