Will Smith was missing from the Grammy’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.

According to Questlove, who produced the legendary 10-minute performance, the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” actor was scheduled to make his award show comeback, but had to cancel at the last minute.

“I’ll give away the plot twist. “Will Smith was a part of tonight’s festivities, but they began filming ‘Bad Boys 4′ this week,” Questlove, 52, told Variety on Sunday, before to the awards event. “He had to take a large number of preliminary shots, so we had to lose Will.”

Quest continued by stating that getting Smith onboard was “a shot in the dark” because he is “always shooting movies.”

Smith was unable to attend the memorial owing to his “Bad Boys 4” filming obligations.

The show-stopping concert included excerpts from Nelly’s “Hot in Here,” Busta Rhymes’ renowned lyric from “Look At Me Now,” and Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five’s rendition of “The Message.”

Future, Ice-T, Lil Baby, Salt-N-Pepa, L.L. Cool J, Queen Latifah, RUN-DMC, Too $hort, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Scarface, Swizz Beatz, and Lil Uzi Vert were among the other famous artists.

Given Smith’s history at the 2022 Academy Awards, Quest’s decision to include him in the production may surprise many viewers.

The producer received the Academy Award for best documentary for “Summer of Soul” just after Smith infamously slapped Chris Rock, but his happy moment was plainly overshadowed.

Despite the fact that sources informed Page Six at the time that Quest and his partners felt “odd” accepting the award onstage after the event, it appears they have since made amends.
