UNA to host workshop on Global Media Congress

JEDDAH, 27th July, 2022 (WAM) — The Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) is set to host a virtual workshop for news agencies introducing the Global Media Congress on 1st August, in cooperation with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) and the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC).

The workshop will aim to present the event, which will be hosted by Abu Dhabi in November 2022, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, with the attendance of regional and international media industry pioneers.

The workshop will also highlight available opportunities for news agencies participating in the congress, including how to book a space for exhibitions and side events.

Mohammed Al Yami, UNA Director-General, said the workshop is part of the union’s keenness to promote engagement among member news agencies during international media events, which will help to promote their performance and update their tools.

The workshop, the first event of its kind in the region, will also provide an opportunity for member news agencies to exchange ideas, especially amidst the rapid developments taking place in the media sector.

Al Yami said the workshop will also highlight the efforts of member news agencies, most notably WAM, and their significant efforts in organising similar major media events.

Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director-General of WAM, said the Global Media Congress will offer an opportunity to promote cooperation and establish regional and international partnerships, which will help achieve progress and leadership in the sector, as well as showcase relevant opportunities for OIC news agencies.

Al Rayssi also stressed the keenness of official media establishments in the UAE to share their expertise in media and communications and hold joint media events with counterparts in Islamic countries.

The pillars of the congress include digital communications, artificial intelligence, advanced technologies and innovation in the media sector.

It will also present specialist sessions on journalism, radio, television, the internet, social media and international influencers.

The Congress will also witness the first edition of the conference accompanying the Global Media Congress from 15th to 17th November, 2022, which will be held under the theme ‘Shaping the Future of the Media Industry’.
