Following the event, the employee proceeded to the Nuestra Seora de America Hospital in the Spanish capital with minor injuries.
The Spanish police have triggered its anti-terror routine and surrounded the embassy with a cordon. The address is 52 Ronda Abubilla.
With sniffer dogs in tow, bomb disposal experts from Tedax are currently conducting an inspection of the area to ensure its safety.

The alert was sounded today at around 1:00 p.m.
The explosion reportedly occurred as the embassy employee attempted to open the mail.
It is currently unclear whether this occurrence is related to the present Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The Ukraine Embassy in Madrid is located in the Hortaleza district of the Spanish capital.
A source from the Spanish National Police stated, “The embassy employee sustained minor injuries and voluntarily went to the hospital.”
An investigation is under progress.
There has been no official response from the Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid as of yet.
According to local reports, the letter containing the explosive device was not examined by the private security firm in charge of embassy security.
A judge from Spain’s Audiencia Nacional court, which handles terrorism investigations, will oversee the investigation launched as a result of the explosion that occurred at lunchtime today.
