UAQ Ruler briefed about emirate’s Sustainable Blue Economy Strategy

UMM AL QAIWAIN, 27th July, 2022 (WAM) — H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Umm Al Qaiwain, was briefed on Wednesday about the implementation of the emirate’s Sustainable Blue Economy Strategy 2031.

While receiving Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, Sheikh Saud was also briefed about the progress of the implementation of the strategy covering eight key sectors, which are environmental tourism, fisheries, sustainable industrial zones, maritime transport, research and development, green carbon, and environmental diversity services and the social sector.

The key transformational projects included in the strategy increase the size of the emirate’s nature reserves by some 20 percent of the total area, allocating three carbon-neutral urban areas and launching an international centre for growing and exporting mangroves. There is also a programme dedicated to supporting the transformation of local industries to an environmentally friendly industrial model.

The projects also include key partnerships with the private sector, launching a centre to support entrepreneurship in the blue economy sector, and creating investment opportunities by attracting more than 100 companies and investors.

Al Marri then presented the developments to the country’s business environment, and the ministry’s future plans focusing on several economic legislative amendments, including cooperatives and laws covering commercial agencies.
