As the latest GDP figures are published, Scottish Secretary Alister Jack says sustainable economic recovery is our priority

Scotland’s GDP numbers for May 2022 have been released online today (Wednesday, July 27, 2022).

Alister Jack, the Scottish Secretary, said: “Seeing the economy improve is a welcome sign, but we recognise there are challenges ahead and we remain focused on helping people with the rising cost of living.”

To assist those who need it most, we have implemented a £37 billion support package.

As part of a plan to guarantee that nearly all of the 8 million vulnerable low-income households in the UK will receive support of at least £1,200, we started paying cost of living payments last week.

To ensure that workers keep more of their pay in their pockets, additional measures include raising the National Insurance threshold, lowering the Universal Credit Taper Rate, and raising the National Living Wage.

Our top aim is achieving a robust and long-lasting economic recovery.

We are investing an additional £52 million to establish two Green Freeports in Scotland that will promote investment and trade in addition to fostering long-term prosperity by generating jobs and revitalising communities.

We are spending £2 billion levelling up communities across Scotland and creating well-paid and highly skilled jobs.
