Two taxis petrol-bombed on KZN property, owner douses flames

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) revealed that members arrived at the scene at around 00:16. Members met with the owner who lives on the property. The owner revealed to RUSA officers that the occupants who petrol-bombed his taxis were in a white vehicle.

They allegedly threw the petrol bombs directly at the mini-bus taxis before speeding off. Two of the incendiary weapons, however, did not ignite.

A white Toyota Quantum caught alight. The petrol bomb fire was doused by the owner before authorities could arrive. RUSA revealed that a motive for the crime was not immediately established.

Intercape bus driver killed, company calls for government intervention

On Thursday, 28 April, an Intercape bus driver died. The 35-year-old was shot and killed outside the company’s depot and passed away in a Cape Town hospital. His killing was followed by attacks on Intercape’s fleet in Gauteng.

The company released a statement on Saturday, 30 April, where they explained that the attacks followed a public announcement. Intercape alleged that there had been a “violent campaign waged against the industry by rogue taxi associations”.

In Gauteng, the attacks occurred on the evenings of Thursday and Friday. Two people were unfortunately injured. Intercape explained that the attacks followed its appeal to President Cyril Ramaphosa for Government to intervene and stop the targeted violence.

Bullying a topic of concern following fatal stabbing of learner

In other news making headlines, bullying in schools has once again been highlighted in South Africa. This follows the fatal stabbing of a Zama Primary School learner. The school is based at Zastron in the Free State.

A learner has been arrested for killing his fellow classmate. The horrific incident occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, 4 May outside the school. It has been reported that the learners got into an argument earlier.

The suspect then threatened to stab the deceased learner with a spoon. The suspect was ordered to go home and bring his parents to school by the principal. Instead of doing this, the suspect allegedly brought a knife to school and killed his classmate.
