Twitter relaunches its subscriber service following a previous error

Twitter is attempting to launch its premium service once more, one month after an earlier attempt failed.

The social media giant announced on Saturday that users would be able to subscribe to Twitter Blue for a blue checkmark and access to unique capabilities, such as the ability to modify Tweets after posting.

The blue checkmark was initially awarded to verified businesses, celebrities, government agencies, and journalists. In October, after purchasing Twitter for $44 billion, Elon Musk established a service offering blue checks to anyone willing to pay $8 per month. Twitter stopped the service days after its introduction due to the influx of fake accounts, including those mimicking Musk’s companies Tesla and SpaceX.

Existing Twitter accounts using iOS in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom can access the new premium service beginning November 9 without undergoing a verification process. According to the corporation, newly established accounts will be subject to a 90-day waiting period before they may be subscribed to.

“Accounts that obtain the blue checkmark as part of a Twitter Blue subscription will no longer be reviewed to validate that they match the active, notable, and legitimate criteria employed in the prior process,” the company’s website notes.

The new service would cost web users $8 per month and iPhone users $11 per month. According to Twitter, subscribers will see fewer advertisements, be allowed to submit longer videos, and have their tweets shown more prominently.
