Tropical Storm Roslyn might become a hurricane off Mexico

Emerging Tropical Storm Roslyn gained intensity near the southern Pacific coast of Mexico, and analysts projected it to be a hurricane when it made landfall between Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan over the weekend.

Late Thursday night, the National Hurricane Center of the United States reported that Roslyn’s maximum sustained winds had climbed to 50 mph. It was located approximately 230 miles south-southeast of Manzanillo and was moving at 8 mph to the northwest.

Friday night, according to forecasters, Roslyn was anticipated to reach hurricane strength. In the coming days, it is expected to gradually turn to a more northerly course and move toward land.

The hurricane center said that tropical storm-force winds reached 60 miles from the center of Roslyn.

Near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico issued a tropical storm warning from Manzanillo to Cabo Corrientes. According to the National Water Commission, rainfall in Roslyn might trigger mudslides and flooding.
