Valdo Calocane, a triple murder suspect, appeared before magistrates at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court after two students and a school caretaker were killed in knife and van attacks.
Calocane, who identified himself as Adam Mendes, stood in the dock on Saturday, flanked by three security officers, wearing a grey T-shirt and jogging bottoms.
The Victims and Alleged Offenses
The 31-year-old defendant is accused of murdering first-year students Grace O’Malley-Kumar and Barnaby Webber, as well as school caretaker Ian Coates, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Calocane is also charged with the attempted murder of pedestrians Wayne Birkett, Marcin Gawronski, and Sharon Miller, as a van belonging to Mr. Coates was allegedly used to target individuals on Milton Street and Upper Parliament Street.

Mr. Coates, 65, was later discovered stabbed to death on Magdala Road after his van was reportedly stolen.
Calocane is alleged to have used the stolen van to drive at pedestrians on Milton Street and South Sherwood Street.

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust stated that two patients from the van incidents are in stable condition, while one has been discharged.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) reported that a marked police car had sight of the suspect’s vehicle for less than a minute before the collision with pedestrians on South Sherwood Street.

The family of Mr. Webber expressed their “complete devastation” over the “senseless murder” of their son, describing him as a “beautiful, brilliant, bright young man.”

Chairwoman of the bench of magistrates, Allison Folkett, remanded Calocane into custody, scheduling his appearance at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday.
