Transport Minister urges motorists not to speed

Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula urges South African motorists to slow down and be cautious on the roads over the holiday season.

According to Mbalula, human behavior leads to the carnage on our roadways.

Mbalula urges pedestrians to wear noticeable clothing at night and to cross the street only when it is safe to do so.

Additionally, he urges motorists not to consume alcohol and to drive slowly and avoid speeding.

Six individuals were killed when a bakkie and a truck crashed head-on in a car collision.

On December 26, 2022, the incident occurred on the N1.29 North in the Vhembe District.

The collision occurred on a section of road known as Manyathela curve between the Sasol Garage and the Baobab toll plaza.

Authorities mention speeding as a possible cause of the collision.

According to the Department of Transport and Community Safety, the accident claimed the lives of a 35-year-old driver and four passengers between the ages of eight and fifteen.

Florence Radzilani, MEC for Transport and Community Safety, extends her sympathies to the families of the deceased.

“We are grieved by these deaths and extend our condolences to the families impacted by this awful event.

“We continue to urge all motorists to abide by the laws of the road so that everyone reaches their individual destinations safely.”

Two people are killed after a vehicle crashes into a river.

Two persons were murdered and three others were injured when their vehicle drove into a river in Mpumalanga, South Africa.

On Monday, December 26th, a man and a woman were killed after their vehicle skidded off the road and into a river between Bethal and Standerton in Mpumalanga.

Two women and the second man had minor to moderate wounds.

In addition to treating the casualties, the medical staff administered advanced life support and CPR to the severely injured man. Eventually, the man passed away due to his injuries.
