A grieving mother described her anguish after learning that her little son had tragically perished on a rope swing accident while playing with pals.
On August 7, 2016, Riain Brennan-Byrne, 10, from Wicklow, Ireland, passed away while vacationing in Leicestershire.
The kid was playing in Holly Hayes Wood in Whitwick, close to Coalville, when he became caught up in the swing, which was suspended from a tree limb by a blue rope, an inquest heard.
His companions discovered the child and promptly fled for assistance. Riain, 10, was declared dead in the hospital an hour later despite heroic attempts to bring him back, according to Leicestershire Live.
Riain’s mother Niamh expressed her heartbreak during the inquest into his death, adding it had “left a tremendous vacuum in our lives.”
“I have a shattered heart and I’m here. I could never have anticipated losing my kid, she said at the Leicester Town Hall hearing.
He was adored by his siblings and step-sister and was always my king. They really miss him.
He has left our lives with a massive hole. I will always be his mommy and he will always be with us.
Riain, who lives in Ireland with his father Derek, was said to have been to Coalville during the summer to spend time with his mother.
The kid was found at about 7 o’clock in the evening, and his classmates’ parents helped bring him down while many people administered CPR.
The boy had a compression to the neck and was unconscious when East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) paramedics arrived on the scene.
After being taken by ambulance to Leicester Royal Infirmary, he was declared dead at 8:06 p.m.
Coroner Ivan Cartwright declared Riain’s death to be an accident and said that a ligature around the neck was the cause of death.
He said, “I’m sure many of us played on these kinds of swings when we were kids.
The only inference I can make is that the death was an accident. This horrible incident occurred.
I want to express to you all my deepest condolences. I’m very sad for your loss.
