A Volatile Relationship

The court heard that Wallace and Mayo were involved in a tumultuous relationship marked by drug use. They lived together in a flat in Mullins Path, Richmond upon Thames.

On July 18, an argument between the couple unfolded near Mortlake train station, drawing the attention of witnesses.

Pursuit Through the Streets

After their argument escalated at their flat, Mayo packed a bag and left around 9.30pm.

Unbeknownst to him, Wallace armed herself with a kitchen knife and began to pursue him through the streets.

CCTV footage captured their separate journeys, with Wallace following Mayo’s route minutes behind.

The fatal encounter took place on Lower Mortlake Road around 9.45pm, where another argument ensued, leading to Wallace stabbing Mayo before retreating home while passers-by rushed to assist him.

Investigation and Evidence

Authorities responded to the scene promptly, but despite their efforts, Mayo was pronounced dead.

Wallace was informed of his death at her address, where she exhibited erratic behavior and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder.

Detectives meticulously pieced together the events of that fateful night, using CCTV footage and forensic analysis to build their case.

They discovered Wallace wearing a long cardigan, concealing the knife in her right pocket.

Forensic examination revealed traces of Mayo’s blood on the cardigan sleeve, and further inspection of the residence uncovered multiple kitchen knives, one of which showed recent cleaning.

Detective’s Statement and Family’s Grief

Detective Inspector Nicola Collins of the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command emphasized that Wallace embarked on that evening’s events armed with a knife and with the clear intention of causing serious harm to Samuel Mayo.

The tragic outcome has left Mayo’s family devastated, and while Wallace has been convicted of murder, it offers little solace to the grieving family coping with the loss of their loved one.
