An inquest into the death of a teenager involved in a motorbike crash has revealed heartbreaking details about the events leading up to the incident.
Stuart Macleod, 17, suffered fatal brain injuries when he collided with a parked car.
The inquest unveiled that Stuart’s concerned mother had taken away the keys to his motorbike, but he managed to find a spare set and ride off to meet friends.
The tragedy occurred as Stuart was not wearing a helmet and was found to be over the alcohol limit at the time of the collision.
Family’s Testimony and Stuart’s Love for Riding:
According to Stuart’s mother, Rositsa Spencer-Smith, Stuart had a passion for riding from a young age.
He had his first quad bike at the age of three, and despite safety precautions put in place, he would remove limiters to increase speed.

The Events Leading to the Crash:
On the day of the crash, Stuart asked his mother if his friends could visit.
She agreed, provided he cleaned his room and caused no mess.
However, concerned about his safety, Stuart’s mother took away the keys to his motorbike without his knowledge.
Despite this, Stuart found a spare set of keys and rode away, bidding his mother farewell.

Sergeant Matthew Waggett, who investigated the crash, determined that Stuart crashed into a parked, unattended car.
There were no witnesses or CCTV footage, but Sgt. Waggett confirmed that no third party was involved.
Toxicological analysis revealed that Stuart had alcohol levels exceeding the legal limit for driving.
Selfie video clips from Stuart’s phone, mounted on the handlebars, showed him appearing happy and elated before the crash.
The footage indicated that Stuart rode across multiple lanes and occasionally looked down at his device.

The coroner recorded a verdict of death resulting from a road traffic collision.
It was highlighted that Stuart suffered fatal head injuries as he crashed into the parked car without wearing a helmet, which he usually did.
