In an accident between a bakkie and a tipper truck on Garsfontein road in the Bashewa neighborhood of Pretoria, Gauteng, three persons were killed, one was flown, and many others were injured.
According to reports, the accident occurred shortly after 16:00 on Wednesday, February 8th.
Emer-G-Med reports that upon arrival, paramedics discovered that a bakkie crashed head-on with a tipper truck carrying sand.
Five patients were discovered locked in the vehicle.
Kyle van Reenen, a spokeswoman for Emer-G-Med, stated that with the help of GPG, VEMRU, the Tshwane Fire Department, and other private services, the patients were stabilized and gently extracted from the truck.
“Two patients sustained fatal injuries upon impact, while a third passed away immediately after being extricated. A critically injured male patient was transferred to a ROCKET HEMS aeromedical helicopter for evacuation to a specialized facility, according to a spokeswoman.
According to reports, the truck driver sustained only minor injuries.
In a second incident on Wednesday, Emer-G-Med paramedics and emergency service vehicles reacted to an accident with multiple casualties on the N12 near the Edenvale exit.
A collision involving a truck, a bus, and many light motor vehicles left 43 individuals with injuries ranging from minor to severe.
