Three January-stolen automobiles found near Mozambique

Mpumalanga Police Commissioner Semakaleng Manamela praised the South African National Defense Force (SANDF) for recovering three vehicles at Steenbook Trust (outside Komatipoort) near the Mozambique border.

The three vehicles, a Toyota Fortuner and two Toyota bakkies, seized on January 28, 2023, were possibly abandoned by suspects.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), troops of the SANDF discovered the three vehicles near the border and recovered them. Police were notified, and upon their arrival, an investigation was launched immediately.

A preliminary inquiry, according to police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, found that the single Cab bakkie (Legend 50) was reported stolen in January in Alberton, Gauteng Province. In addition, the Toyota Fortuner was allegedly taken in January 2023 in Mothotlung, North-West Province, during a carjacking.

When the police zoomed in on the recovered Toyota Club Cab bakkie (Legend 50), they discovered that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Springs, Gauteng Province, in January 2023.

Mohlala stated that although no one has been detained, police will continue to search for the criminals and requested anyone with information that could assist in apprehending them to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or on MYSAPSAPP.

“All information received will be kept strictly confidential, and callers may choose to remain anonymous,” he said.
