On Sunday, a gunman opened fire at a Six Flags amusement park in Illinois, injuring three people. As a result, children were compelled to hide in terror.
Three persons were injured after bullets were fired from a car in the parking lot of Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, roughly 45 miles north of Chicago, according to a representative for the amusement park.
The car departed promptly. A police source informed WGN that the injuries were not life-threatening, but no other information was supplied.
According to the spokeswoman, two of the wounded were sent to a hospital for examination, while one declined care.
Laurie Walker, who was there with her daughter Grace when shots were fired, said that they were in line for a ride when people began to flee.
Walker reported hearing someone yell, “There is an active shooter, get down, get down!” We had no idea what was going on, so we dropped to the ground.
Walker and her kid scaled two fences to reach a location from where she could contact her husband.
She said that they were allowed to exit the park shortly afterwards.
Charlie Donda and his companions fled the danger, with Donda telling CBS Chicago, “I immediately believed there were fireworks.” Then we saw hundreds of people rushing. It was frightening, but we are safe.
There have been no arrests, and the inquiry is still underway.
Gurnee is located in Lake County, about 20 miles north of Highland Park, where seven people were killed during a Fourth of July parade earlier this year.
