This is a climate cult gone insane, says STEVE HILTON

California is experiencing a fatal catastrophe!

In potentially the cruelest and most inept recent edict, Californians with electric vehicles were told not to charge their cars. To complete the picture of chaos and confusion, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Isaac Sanchez pleaded with people to ignore that command, with parts of the state under wildfire evacuation warnings.

Governor Gavin Newsom (above) has been sending plaintive pleas thanking us for complying and urging us to continue with the rationing measures.

Newsom (above) assures us our compliance will ensure that 'we can get through this together.'

No, not the 100-degree-plus temperatures that blanketed the state for weeks.

Heat waves are intermittent.

I’m referring to something considerably more nasty. A ‘climate cult’ is strangling the state to death with its grip.

Every Californian with a cellphone has been receiving urgent text messages imploring them to switch off their appliances and reduce their air conditioning for the past week.

Governor Gavin Newsom has been sending pleading communications thanking us for our compliance and pushing us to continue the restriction measures.

The electrical grid in California cannot accommodate the additional demands caused by the heat.

Newsom promises us that our compliance will make it possible for us to “get through this together.”

How do you what?

Despite Newsom’s bogus claims of ‘record’ temperatures, a run of hot days in the summer is nothing new.

1988 marked the last comparable heat wave. This is certainly not ancient history.

The true reason California, the fifth largest economy in the world, cannot power its inhabitants’ homes is that Newsom and far-left Democrats have waged war on energy for years in the name of fighting climate change.

For them, the only thing that matters is advancing a deranged and nonsensical anti-energy, anti-human agenda with the passion of a religious fanatic.

Reliable sources of electricity, such as gas-burning power plants and nuclear power, have been weakened, while renewable alternatives, such as wind and solar, have been subsidized and regulated.

Let’s be clear: the climate is changing, and I’ve always backed fair, well-balanced strategies to address this fact. I also support the usage and development of renewable energy sources.

Millions of Californians and I are unwilling to expose ourselves and our children to extreme heat and risk in service of a nebulous, self-righteous, ill-conceived crusade that will not even achieve its declared goals.

There is no indication that California’s self-sacrifice would reduce global warming in any substantial way.

In any event, there has been no long-term rise in the frequency or severity of heatwaves in the United States over the past century, and the number of deaths caused by heatwaves has decreased dramatically, primarily due to the increased availability of air conditioning.

Every Californian with a cellphone has been receiving urgent text messages imploring them to switch off their appliances and reduce their air conditioning for the past week.

However, climate extremists demand that we switch off our air conditioning.

Isn’t this evidence that the withdrawal from stable energy sources has gone too far?

Apparently not, according to the so-called “climate crisis” high priests.

Siva Gunda, vice chair of the California Energy Commission, stated to The Washington Post, “We recognize that we cannot afford to lose power.” However, the worry that these issues would be raised is not a justification to delay doing what we know is morally and socially necessary.

It is presented in black and white. It is moral to limit the production of energy.

Unbelievably, California is doubling down in the midst of this wholly self-created disaster.

The most recent focal point is the initiative to force the electrification of our economy by prohibiting gas stoves in new homes and, most notably, gas automobiles by 2035.

Electric automobiles for all!

In what may be the cruelest and most incompetent recent decree, however, Californians with electric automobiles were ordered not to charge their vehicles.

To complete the picture of mayhem and uncertainty, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Isaac Sanchez begged with people to disregard that order, as portions of the state were under evacuation orders due to wildfires.

We encourage fully charged and ready-to-go vehicles. If that’s your only method of escape, and if you don’t do it, you won’t be able to escape, then life safety is a top concern. At least from our perspective,’ Sanchez told Newsweek. Our guiding principle is to always err on the side of life safety.

Exactly.

However, ‘life’ is not a concern for the deranged ‘climate’ extremists who have led California to this pitiful situation.

They have even contributed to the very flames they use to justify their goals.

By compelling utilities such as PG&E in Northern California to spend money on frivolous ‘climate’ projects, routine maintenance has been neglected.

Investigations have often revealed that malfunctioning equipment is the source of the most destructive wildfires.

It is tragic, and a message to the rest of America, that all of this is completely needless.

California, like the rest of the United States, has substantial energy supplies, particularly natural gas, which we might use to dependably power our economy and society while simultaneously cutting carbon emissions.

Instead, we are pathetically coping with rationing and the importation of considerably dirtier fossil fuels from some of the world’s worst regimes.

The sickening spectacle of Biden’s “fist-bump of humiliation” with Mohammed Bin Salman, the Butcher of Saudi Arabia, caused us all to recoil.

Electric-vehicle-owning Californians were warned not to charge their automobiles in what may be the cruelest and most stupid recent order.

To complete the picture of mayhem and uncertainty, Cal Fire Battalion Chief Isaac Sanchez begged with people to disregard that order, as portions of the state were under evacuation orders due to wildfires.

“Life” is not a priority for the deranged “climate” extremists who have driven California to this dreadful position.

Now, the Saudis are throwing it back in Biden’s face by promising to reduce output rather than increase it in order to keep high prices.

It is a very disgusting abandonment of leadership by the United States.

Nonetheless, these Democratic leaders have the audacity to say that their terrible and chaotic energy policies should be emulated.

Newsom boasts that the nation will follow California’s lead, a notion recently repeated by Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm that should worry all Americans.

If Democrats in California – or at the national level – truly desired to achieve this goal, they would offer significant support to nuclear power, the most reliable type of clean energy available.

Instead, after years of demonization in California, the only remaining nuclear power plant, Diablo Canyon, received a reluctant reprieve with no long-term investment and a symbolic pledge from Vice President Joe Biden.

Considering the astounding incoherence and profound destructiveness of the Democrats’ energy plans, it is unavoidable to infer that they are actually in the grasp of a climate cult.

Anti-science, anti-human, and incoherent even by its own standards, it is a massive, self-indulgent exercise in elitist virtue-signaling, and as usual, the average American is left in the dark.
